Supporting School Improvement Across Wales

At ignite ec we are passionate about empowering schools to thrive within the vision of the Curriculum for Wales.

We work alongside school leaders, teachers, support staff and stakeholders to drive meaningful school improvement that places learners at the heart of education and learning.

We recognise and fully understand that no two schools are the same, so we create and develop bespoke, tailored projects and packages of support that meet the needs of the organisation.

Areas of Expertise

Leadership Development

Enhancing leadership skills across the organisation. Inspiring growth and embedding best practices.

Educational Leadership for Sustained Effective Improvement

The best educational leaders drive sustained strategic improvement by fostering a clear vision, empowering staff through coaching and collaboration, and embedding a culture of continuous reflection, innovation and accountability.

Our founder's journey in educational leadership has been shaped by evidence-based practice, continuous, self-directed professional development and a deep understanding of how leadership styles influence school culture and student outcomes.

With expertise in strategic planning, team leadership and whole-school improvement, ignite ec is well placed to support schools facing real-world challenges by applying research-driven strategies to create a lasting positive impact on a school.

Leadership Styles: Driving Sustained Improvement

Effective leadership is adaptive. To create lasting school improvement, we support schools in applying a blend of leadership styles tailored to meet the needs of the school, inclusive of:

Emotional Intelligence, at the heart of our leadership approach. Daniel Goleman (1995) identified five key components of emotional intelligence:

  • self-awareness
  • self-regulation
  • motivation
  • empathy
  • social skills

He emphasised:

"Leaders with high emotional intelligence create a climate in which information sharing, trust and learning flourish".

Transformational Leadership is a style we use in our work to:

Motivate and inspire staff to take ownership of school improvement.

Encourage innovation by fostering a growth mindset

Develop leadership capacity across the school team.

Coaching Leadership is the the cornerstone of our philosophy at ignite ec. Using the GROW model we can support staff to set clear objectives, identify challenges, explore solutions and commit to action.

Our focus is supporting the development of self-sustaining leadership, where staff develop the skill and confidence to drive their own improvement.

Our work supports the concept of Adaptive Leadership, where we work together to:

Recognise and navigate change effectively.

Empower others to overcome challenges.

Balance technical solutions with adaptive problem-solving.

Our approach in supporting schools in this area is grounded in research, experience and a deep belief in the power of education to change and shape lives.

Expressive Arts

Practical support, resources for teaching staff and tailored student projects / workshops designed for to enhance wellbeing, communication, confidence and self-esteem. The aim: to develop behaviours for learning.

The Impact of Expressive Arts

Company Founder, Rebecca, knows first-hand the transformative power of Expressive Arts in schools.

Whether it's music, drama, dance or visual arts, these areas of learning shape students holistically, nurturing their confidence , emotional wellbeing , and essential life skills.

Having taught students engaged in Expressive Arts, Rebecca has seen how these areas and subjects allow them to explore their identities, communicate in new ways, and develop resilience.

For some, the arts provide a voice when words fail them. For others, they serve as a safe space to manage emotions, build self-esteem, and foster a sense of 'cynefin'.

The Holistic Benefits

Expressive Arts impact students on multiple levels - emotionally, socially, cognitively and physically.

Creativity encourages self-expression, helping students process their thoughts and feelings in ways that promote mental well-being. Engaging in the arts has been linked to reduced stress and anxiety, offering a therapeutic outlet.

Socially, the arts encourage collaboration. Whether performing in a play, working on a group painting or playing in an ensemble, students learn teamwork, communication and empathy - skills that are vital in both personal and professional life.

Academically, involvement in the arts enhances cognitive development. Studies show that students who engage in creative subjects often perform better in problem-solving, critical thinking, and even Mathematics and LLC. The arts encourage perseverance and adaptability, teaching students how to approach challenges with an open mind.

Developing Essential Skills and Behaviours

Expressive Arts nurture key life skills and positive behaviours. Students learn:

Confidence & Public Speaking: Performing in front of others builds self-assurance and effective communication

Resilience & Perseverance: The creative process involves trial and error, teaching students to embrace mistakes and keep going.

Empathy & Emotional Intelligence: Stepping into a role, interpreting emotions in a painting, film or writing a song fosters deeper understanding of different perspectives.

Collaboration & Leadership: Group and thematic projects teach cooperation, leadership, and the importance of each group members contribution.

Focus & Self-Discipline: Whether learning an instrument, rehearsing a performance, refining a painting, or editing film, the arts requires dedication and patience.

Sustained School Improvement Through Pedagogy

Key Aspects of Successful Pedagogy in Wales
  • Learner-Centred Approaches.
  • High-Quality Teaching and Professional Learning
  • Inclusive and Adaptive teaching
  • Effective use of Assessment for Learning (AfL)

Sustained School Improvement Through Pedagogy

Embedding a whole-school learning culture by developing a shared vision, embedding professional inquiry, and developing leadership as all levels - empowering teachers to innovate.

Strengthening community and employer links by involving businesses and organisations to provide real-world experiences. Developing and sustaining partnerships to support skills-based learning and employability. Using outdoor learning to enrich the curriculum.

Leveraging technology and digital innovation to personalise learning and promote computational thinking and digital competency across all areas of learning. Identifying and implementing AI opportunities to tailor teaching, support and track progress.

Continuous reflection and curriculum adaptation to regularly review curriculum implementation with staff and students. Use data-driven insights to refine teaching approaches and ensure flexibility in curriculum design to meet emerging challenges and opportunities.

Successful pedagogy aligned with the Curriculum for Wales is the foundation for long-term school improvement.

By prioritising learner agency, professional learning, inclusive teaching, and innovative assessment, schools can create a dynamic and responsive education offer.

Shaping a successful future for our students in Wales relies on our ability to adapt, collaborate and maintain a focus on high-quality learning experiences that prepares all learners for success.

Growth Mindset Pedagogy fosters resilience and independent learning. It encourages high expectations for all students and creates a culture of continuous improvement for teachers.

Embedding Growth Mindset in AfL supports our progression-focused assessment. Its principle support formative feedback, self-assessment and goal setting, helping students focus on progress rather than grades. This ensures a sustainable model of improvement, where learning is a continuous journey rather than a fixed outcome.
